Food Parts You Should Never Throw Out

The old saying one man’s trash is another man’s treasure is never truer than when we’re talking about nutrition! Some parts of the foods that are commonly throw out have a bounty of goodness!

Keep this in mind the next time you are working with these goodies!

Pineapple Core. Contains bromelain, which reduces inflammation. Chop and add to fruit salads, slaws and smoothies.

Kiwi Skin. Full of Vitamin C and more fiber than the fruit itself. Throw the whole fruit into a smoothie or eat whole.

Onion Skin. The scraps have a high level of quercetin, a phytonutrient that fights inflammation, reduces blood pressure, prevents arterial plaque and is heart healthy. Add them to the rest of the soup.

Citrus Zest. Contains more than a gram of fiber in two tablespoons of zest and nearly 3 times the vitamin C, and contains folate, vitamin A, calcium and potassium. Blend into smoothies, vinaigrette or marinades. Celery Leaves. Celery leaves are rich in magnesium, calcium, and vitamin C. Throw them in salads, vegetable stock, soups or as a garnish.
