Ten Tips to Drop Pounds

Updated: Sep 21, 2020

1. Drink Water. Dehydration is confusing to our brains. Often, our brain will signal that it is hungry, when our body actually needs hydration. Drink two 8 ounces of water upon first getting up. Drink another large glass (or 16 ounces) in between each meal. When hunger sensations arrive, try drinking water instead.

2. Eat Real Food. Avoid products with more than 3 items on the ingredient list. Avoid products with high-fructose corn syrup on the label. These items are highly processed, lack the nutrients our body needs, and are loaded with empty calories.

3. Eat Mindfully. Turn off the television, phone, computer, and other devices. Sit down and savor the food that is being eaten with no distractions.

4. Chew Food Well. Digestion begins in the mouth. By chewing food thoroughly, our bodies absorb more nutrients and it slows down the process. It takes 20 minutes for the brain to signal to the stomach that it is full. By slowing down and chewing each bite for 20 to 30 seconds, we eat less and get full faster.

5. Remove Liquid Calories. Most liquid calories are full of sugar. One of the easiest ways to get pounds off is by eliminating all sweetened beverages. Try blood-sugar balancing vegetable juices, water, pure unsweetened tea, and coffee in moderation.

6. Eat Plant Based Foods. Plant based foods are higher in nutritional value, are high in fiber (which supports weight loss), and provide essential nutrients and minerals that support weight loss.

7. Add Sweet Vegetables and Spices to Your Diet. Sweet vegetables and spices such as sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, and cinnamon naturally satisfy sweet cravings and soothe the nervous and digestive system.

8. Eat Breakfast. Having breakfast sets us up all day and gets our metabolism (the rate we burn calories) up and running first thing. Stopping breakfast can cause blood sugar to drop, affecting mood, energy, and cravings. Our bodies naturally need less food as the day progresses.

9. Start Juicing or Making Smoothies. Juicing fresh vegetables with a light plant-based diet is a great way to gently cleanse the body and jump start weight loss. Try having a low-sugar green juice or smoothie each day for 30 days and notice the difference in energy and weight.

10. Identify Food Allergens. One of the most common roadblocks to weight loss is identifying food allergies or sensitivities. Get tested for common allergens like gluten, soy, and dairy, or simply do an elimination diet. Eliminate all 3 or one at a time for 30 days, then add the food back a few days apart from each other. Take note of any reaction. When allergens are removed, weight is naturally released.
